Around 1968-69 a young, educated, enthusiastic, hard working group of women started thinking of setting up an organisation that would bring together the entire women folk literate and illiterate, rich and poor, rural and urban under one banner. 1967 happened to be the year of sister Nivedita's birth centenary. This group chose sister Nivedita as their ideal. Sister Nivedita alias Margaret Noble was an Irish teacher who was inspired by the work and dedication of Swami Vivekananada.she came to India in 1886 to devote her life and career for India's freedom struggle and for the upliftment of Indian woman.
The founders of Bhagini Nivedita Pratishthan found a torch bearer in Nivedita who was a commoner and was not belonging to noble families like Sita, or Droupadi or Rani Laxmibai. Nivedita started the first school for the girls in India a keyrole in India's freedom movement and assisted Yogi Arvinda and anna Besent. Nividita gave the thought of Women's emancipation probably for the first time and tried to bring it in reality by training and teaching women. Work, work and work was her motto.
